Record-breaking 372mm of Rainfall in 24 Hours Causes Landslides in Kerala, Resulting in 54 Fatalities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has communicated with Kerala Chief Minister

At minimum 54 individuals have perished after enormous landslides struck the hilly regions in the Wayanad district in Kerala this morning.
Authorities mentioned landslides were activated by continuous rain in the area. The state documented 372 mm precipitation in the past 24 hours.
Several organizations, including NDRF, have participated in the rescue operations in the hilly regions close to Meppadi.
Authorities stated that 250 individuals have been saved thus far and were transferred to provisional shelters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has communicated with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and guaranteed all support to the LDF government. He has also instructed BJP leader JP Nadda to make sure that party employees help in rescue activities.
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced reimbursement of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those deceased in the disaster. Those wounded will receive Rs 50,000.
BJP leader JP Nadda stated that the top priority of the government is to rescue the trapped individuals and retrieve the deceased bodies.
“PM Modi conversed with the Kerala Chief Minister and provided him assurance. Assistance from central organizations for relief has arrived there. Efforts are being made in collaboration with the state government. At present, the primary focus is to retrieve the bodies and save those who can be rescued,” Mr Nadda remarked.
The Kerala Chief Minister’s office stated that a command center has been established to deliver immediate relief and rescue support following the landslides.
Among the impacted regions are Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha, authorities have stated. Numerous roads have crumbled and a bridge has been carried away and several areas have become inaccessible, Health Minister Veena George informed news agency ANI, “We have to restore the connectivity. Helicopters will also be brought in, but the weather is unfavorable.”
