AAP MP Sanjay Singh encountered the protesting UPSC candidates in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar on Thursday.

New Delhi:

AAP MP Sanjay Singh encountered the protesting UPSC candidates in Rajinder Nagar on Thursday and announced he will contribute Rs 3 crore for the establishment of a library in memory of three students who perished in the flooded basement of a civil services coaching center.

Engaging with the students, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader mentioned that the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will offer Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of the students who were victims of this incident and a library will be constructed in remembrance of the deceased students.

“I will allocate Rs 1 crore each from my MPLAD fund for this purpose. The government has decided to enact a law to supervise coaching centers, incorporating the students’ suggestions,” he remarked.

Throughout the discussion, the students urged to establish accountability for the senior officials responsible for this incident at the Rau’s IAS Study Circle and take stringent action against them.

Addressing the students’ demands individually, the Rajya Sabha MP proposed the creation of a welfare fund jointly by the coaching centers’ proprietors and the government, to provide assistance to students in need. Additionally, he suggested establishing a permanent mechanism to address and resolve students’ complaints.

He mentioned that after considering the students’ recommendations, the Delhi government is planning to introduce legislation to regulate coaching centers in Delhi. An official directive has been issued for this purpose, he added.

Singh stated that 10 students will participate in formulating this legislation, which will be tailored to the students’ input. The draft will soon be prepared and presented in the assembly, he confirmed.

He also mentioned that in response to the students’ request to release the CCTV footage of the Rajinder Nagar incident, a cabinet minister has sent a similar letter. The Delhi Police will furnish this footage, he assured.

“The Commissioner of Delhi Police or any other officer capable of providing the CCTV footage, we will arrange a meeting with them and any student willing to accompany me can do so. We will request them to provide the footage of this incident,” he added.

Mr. Singh also addressed the students’ plea for job opportunities for four individuals.

“Delhi’s services fall under the LG’s purview. Our minister has written to the LG regarding this matter. We will also visit him to ensure that this job demand is met,” he added.

The Rajya Sabha MP, while acknowledging the students’ request for a public library, stated that as soon as land is made available by MCD or DDA, he will erect three public libraries in memory of the three students by allocating Rs 1 crore each from his MP fund. During this exchange, a student present there mentioned that the MCD Commissioner indicated he cannot independently construct a public library.

“If that is the case, then I will allocate Rs 1 crore each from my MP fund for this purpose,” he declared.

Regarding the students’ compensation request, he stated that the Delhi Government and MCD will provide Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the three children.

“Furthermore, efforts will be made to secure the demand for Rs 1 crore compensation from the coaching institute within a maximum of one month,” he assured.

During the interaction, the students reiterated the requests made to Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi on Wednesday, which he pledged to fulfill promptly.
