US Woman Finds Rs 66 Lakh While Dumpster Diving

Tiffany Butler has amassed approximately $80,000 by reselling items over a span of two years.

A citizen of the United States from Texas, Tiffany Butler, 34, has garnered attention for her valuable discoveries during her rummaging in waste receptacles. Butler, who routinely searches through discarded items to salvage usable goods, recently stumbled upon a large bag of brand new New Balance sneakers in a trash bin.

The sneakers, which are priced at over Rs 10,000 each, were amidst several other pristine items, such as water bottles, T-shirts, and socks from the same brand. Butler, who rummages through dumpsters two to three times a week, mentioned that this specific find was a stroke of luck, as she had previously encountered no success in that particular location.

“You never know when stores will discard items—it’s truly all about chance,” Butler, who engages in dumpster diving at least two to three times weekly, informed What’s The Jam.

Butler estimates that she has generated approximately $80,000 (Rs 66,99376) from reselling items she uncovers in the garbage over a period of two years. She showcases her findings to her three million social media followers, illustrating the potential worth of items that others might discard.

Nonetheless, acquiring valuables or money is not unprecedented in this world. There have been numerous occurrences worldwide where individuals have uncovered money or other valuables, like jewelry, in the refuse.

In 2023, a Bengaluru scavenger came across multiple bundles of US dollars amounting to $3 million (Rs 25 crore) in a heap of trash. However, subsequent investigation by authorities revealed that the bills were counterfeit.
Salman Sheikh discovered 23 bundles of bills in a heap of trash on November 1 in Bengaluru’s Hebbal.

“I was carrying out my duties, and suddenly I noticed this bag at 1 pm I saw plenty of cash. I simply passed out. I have never encountered such a large sum of money. I knew that it was not Indian currency,” he recounted.
