New Delhi:

The threatening email received by a school in Delhi’s Greater Kailash region turned out to be a ruse by a 14-year-old student to skip classes, authorities revealed today.

The Summer Fields School in Kailash Colony, Greater Kailash-1, was sent an email on Friday warning of an explosion at the school. The school premises were promptly cleared.

“We received an email late at night which was reviewed early morning today (Friday). Following protocol, we evacuated the students within 10 minutes of receiving the email,” stated Shalini Agarwal, the Principal of Summer Fields School, yesterday.

Delhi Police confirmed that a 14-year-old student has been identified and is currently undergoing questioning.

“The student did not wish to attend school and therefore, sent the threatening email,” authorities stated.

They also mentioned that the student included two other schools in the email to make it seem authentic. An investigation is currently ongoing, they added.

Previously, on May 2, a total of 131 schools in Delhi received threatening emails. The Delhi Police revealed that the emails sent to the schools in Delhi-NCR contained the term ‘Swaraiim’, an Arabic term used by the Islamic State since 2014 for spreading Islamist propaganda.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) later released an official statement declaring the email to be a ‘deception’.

“There is no need to be alarmed. The email seems to be a deception. Delhi Police and security agencies are following necessary procedures as per protocol,” the official statement from the MHA stated.
