New Delhi:

A retired 72-year-old man MTNL technician was allegedly stabbed to death by his son following a property disagreement at his home in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Mahesh Thakur, the younger offspring of Gautam Thakur, was allegedly distressed about his father supporting his older sibling with purchasing a property, they mentioned.

While being interrogated, Mahesh revealed that he found out about his father’s intention to sell the residence where the family currently lived. He explained that his father was collaborating with the older son without informing him, Deputy Police Commissioner (East) Apurva Gupta stated.

His father had also sold some assets two years ago and used the profit to help his older son buy a property in New Ashok Nagar, but Mahesh received no share, he informed the authorities.

Feeling deceived, Mahesh meticulously planned and carried out his father’s homicide while the other family members were asleep, Gupta stated.

Gupta mentioned that the police team responding to the PCR call concerning the stabbing discovered Gautam Thakur lifeless on the bed in his chamber on the first level of the residence.

He had stab wounds in his midsection, she remarked, mentioning that Mahesh was the one who made the PCR call.

After admitting to the crime, Mahesh was taken into custody. He also revealed the alleged murder weapon, a large kitchen blade, which was found in a water tank on the roof of a neighboring house where he had disposed of it, according to the authorities.

Gautam, who retired from MTNL in 2012, was residing with his two sons and their families on the first level of the house, authorities stated.

It was established during the investigative process that all the family members were inside the house at the time of the incident, Gupta mentioned.

Mahesh initially claimed to have seen two individuals leaving the house shortly after the incident, but this is still being verified, she remarked.

The DCP mentioned that multiple inconsistencies were detected in Mahesh’s account and discrepancies in his narrative during the preliminary inquiry.
