According to the New York Post, this trend essentially involves a bottle of lukewarm water, a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds, and a splash of fresh lemon. However, the moniker “tadpole water” derives from its striking resemblance to juvenile frogs swimming in a pond. 

Online teenagers and young adults are enthusiastically discussing the advantages of this homemade mixture. They claim that this trend is helping them shed extra weight, alleviate bloating, and promote good intestinal health. An 18-year-old TikTok user shared that this mixture aided her in losing a “pound a day” within a span of three days. “I can confirm that it does work for weight loss,” Mariah Padilla stated, as per the Post.

Ms. Padilla described the consistency and flavor of the beverage as “peculiar”, but acknowledged that “if it aids, it aids”. “It makes me gag…but it’s worth it,” she expressed in the video. 

Another content creator, Ambria Streicher asserted that she shed a few pounds utilizing the homemade concoction. Nonetheless, she remarked, “(To be honest) this stuff is NOT good.”

Another food enthusiast reminded “tadpole” participants of the cardinal rule for preparing the drink: soak the seeds. “Health tip of the day, if you don’t immerse your chia seeds in water before consuming them, your chia seeds will expand in your stomach, causing obstruction – leading to constipation. And it’s just going to disturb your digestive system,” she highlighted. 

Chia seeds have surged in popularity in recent years as a superfood by many nutritionists and health experts. According to the source, chia seeds in water are believed to possess pound-blasting properties. “Chia seeds are packed with nutrients that may support numerous health benefits,” explained a recent report from Harvard Health. 

The experts mentioned that the seeds are abundant in fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They aid in digestive health and weight management and also assist in lowering both blood pressure and cholesterol levels. 

“Upon consuming chia seeds, they form a gel-like substance in the stomach that can enhance your sensation of fullness and reduce your appetite and calorie intake,” researchers stated.
