Olympic pugilist Imane Khelif expressed that she had triumphed for her nation’s women as Algeria’s Paris Games medalists received a triumphant reception at Algiers airport on Monday. Khelif, who was the focal point of a gender dispute at the Olympics en route to clinching the women’s 66kg title, teenage gymnastics gold medalist Kaylia Nemour and men’s 800m bronze medalist Djamel Sedjati proudly displayed their medals for the eager fans. The audience lauded Khelif with chants of “Tahia Imane” (long live Imane). “The solution resided in the outcomes of each bout,” she stated. “I aimed to demonstrate the prowess of performance and the representation of women in general, and Algerian women in particular.”
The International Olympic Committee assumed control of the boxing competition in Paris after losing patience with the International Boxing Association.
The IBA, spearheaded by Umar Kremlev, a Kremlin-associated tycoon, counteracted during the Games by declaring that it had disqualified Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting from its global championships last year because its examinations indicated “these are males”. The IBA had permitted both pugilists to compete in Tokyo three years ago.
Khelif, 25, tackled what she labeled a “persistent crusade” on Monday.
She conveyed her gratitude to the Algerian populace who stood by her in this ordeal and provided her with fortitude.
“Algerian women serve as a paradigm and an exemplar for the entire world,” the pugilist remarked. “Thanks to the Almighty, we have reinstated Algeria’s dignity and hoisted the Algerian flag in Paris, which is the most crucial achievement.”
