India and Singapore to Commemorate 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations with a Series of High-Level Visits
The forthcoming visit of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to New Delhi and Odisha from January 14 to 18 will signify the first instance in the past decade for a Singaporean president to travel to India
The visit highlights the strengthening connections between the two nations, both in terms of diplomacy and commerce.
One of the two agreements on the agenda relates to training in the semiconductors industry in Odisha as both parties will initiate efforts to enhance their economic relations and air connectivity.
This agreement will enable India to receive assistance from Singapore in the areas of semi-conductor basics, procedures, packaging, and testing.
The two nations are also exploring the possibility of raising the yearly investment from the current 12 billion USD to 20 billion USD, according to diplomatic sources.
In addition to holding discussions with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he is expected to hold meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Health Minister J P Nadda, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development Jayant Chaudhary.
He will also journey to Bhubaneshwar to meet Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Additionally, he will pay a visit to the Konark temple.
The relationship between India and Singapore was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip in September 2024.
Skill center initiatives, backed by both the public and private sectors, have been concluded in six states: Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Assam, Odisha, and Telangana.
