Delhi Covered in Dense Fog: More than 100 Flights and 27 Trains Delayed
A thick blanket of fog continued to cover Delhi on Friday, causing visibility issues and delays for over 100 flights and more than 20 train operations. Visibility in the national capital dropped to zero to 200 meters, leading to delays in at least 130 flights.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) warned that flights not compliant with CAT III regulations may be affected. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for updated flight information. IndiGo also issued a similar advisory, cautioning passengers about potential changes in flight schedules due to low visibility.
Additionally, 27 trains heading towards Delhi were delayed. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 294 this morning, falling into the ‘poor’ category. Last year, Delhi experienced severe air pollution post-Diwali, prompting the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 4. However, Stage 4 was revoked after light rain improved air quality, with Stage 3 remaining in effect.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted mostly clear skies with dense fog in the morning for Friday in Delhi. Visuals showed the city covered in fog, causing disruptions to transportation and daily activities.
