Centre Offers Manmohan Singh Memorial Next to Pranab Mukherjee’s to Family

Government to Allocate Land for Manmohan Singh Memorial

The government has announced that it is waiting for the family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to build a trust, after which land will be allocated for the construction of a memorial. Sources have revealed that once the trust is formed, the government will provide Rs 25 lakh to support the building of the memorial.

Manmohan Singh’s Legacy

Manmohan Singh is remembered for his significant contributions to India’s economic growth. Serving as the Finance Minister in 1991, he played a pivotal role in introducing groundbreaking reforms that opened up the country’s economy to the world. He later went on to serve as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

Controversy Surrounding Memorial Allocation

Following Manmohan Singh’s death on December 26, 2021, the Congress criticized the government for not finding a suitable location for his memorial. In response, the BJP pointed out that the Congress had failed to build a memorial for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.

In a recent development, the government allocated land for the memorial of another former leader, Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away in 2020. The plot has been earmarked in the ‘Rashtriya Samiti’ complex in the Rajghat precinct in Delhi, as confirmed by Mukherjee’s daughter in January.

Expressing Gratitude to the Government

Sharmistha Mukherjee, the daughter of Pranab Mukherjee, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to thank him for the government’s decision to create a memorial for her father. In a social media post, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the unexpected but gracious gesture by the Prime Minister. Mukherjee also criticized the Congress for demanding a memorial for Manmohan Singh while failing to acknowledge her father’s contributions.

Moving Forward

With the government’s commitment to allocate land for both Pranab Mukherjee and Manmohan Singh’s memorials, it highlights the recognition of their significant roles in shaping India’s history. The memorials will serve as lasting tributes to these leaders and their contributions to the nation.
