Delhi Unit Head Addresses Question of Chief Minister Role as BJP Secures Majority
New Delhi:
As the early trends in the Delhi Assembly elections show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading over the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Virendra Sachdeva, the party’s Delhi unit president, expressed satisfaction with the results so far, stating that they are in line with their expectations.
Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at Connaught Place’s Hanuman Temple, Sachdeva said, “The results so far are in line with our expectations but we will wait for the final outcome.”
Expectations Met for BJP
The initial counting trends on the Election Commission website indicate that the BJP is leading in 32 assembly seats, while Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP is ahead in 14 seats. Sachdeva credited the hard work of the party workers for these early victories.
“Our party workers have worked hard. This victory will be the victory of our top leadership. We have contested the election based on the issues of Delhi – but Arvind Kejriwal tried to deviate from the issues,” he added.

AAP vs BJP In Delhi Assembly Polls
The early trends indicate a potential shift in political dominance in Delhi, with the BJP making significant gains and challenging the AAP’s stronghold in the region. The BJP, aiming to return to power for the first time since 1998, is currently leading in 46 seats, well above the majority mark of 36.
On the other hand, the AAP is ahead in 24 seats, while the Congress, which ruled Delhi from 1998 to 2013, is leading in one seat.
