BCCI Announces Two Major Changes to India’s Champions Trophy 2025 Squad as Jasprit Bumrah is Ruled Out
Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of Champions Trophy 2025
Indian cricket fans were left disappointed as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed late on Tuesday night that Jasprit Bumrah would be missing the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury. The 23-year-old pace bowler had been struggling with fitness issues after sustaining the injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite being advised five weeks of rest, Bumrah was unable to recover in time for the prestigious tournament.
Replacement in the Squad
In a surprising turn of events, Harshit Rana was named as Bumrah’s replacement in the final 15-man squad. Rana, who made his ODI debut during the series against England, has already impressed with his bowling skills by picking up four wickets in just two games. The young pacer will now have a chance to showcase his talent on the international stage as he steps in for the experienced Bumrah.
Changes in the Squad
Apart from Bumrah’s replacement, there was another significant change in the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the promising young opener, was left out of the final squad, with Varun Chakaravarthy, the mystery spinner, taking his place. Chakaravarthy’s inclusion comes after his stellar performance in the T20I series against England, where he was named the ‘Player of the Series’ for his 14 wickets in five games.
Non-Travelling Substitutes
In anticipation of any potential injuries during the tournament, Team India has named three non-travelling substitutes. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Shivam Dube have been identified as backup options who will be ready to travel to Dubai as and when required.
Final Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The final squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 includes Rohit Sharma as the captain, with Shubman Gill serving as the vice-captain. The team also features stalwarts like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, along with promising talents like Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy. The squad is well-balanced with a mix of experience and youth, ready to take on the challenges of the tournament.
As the Indian team prepares for the Champions Trophy, fans will be eagerly awaiting the performances of the new faces in the squad and hoping for a successful campaign in the pinnacle event of limited-overs cricket.
