Virat Kohli Breaks Record for Most Catches in ODIs

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli made history during the Champions Trophy 2025 Group A clash against Pakistan, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin to hold the record for the most catches as a fielder for India in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with a total of 158 catches. Kohli, aged 36, achieved this milestone by taking two crucial catches during the match at the Dubai International Stadium.

Record-Breaking Performance

In the 47th over of the match, Kohli caught Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery to reach the record. He went on to secure another catch of Khushdil Shah in the final over, further solidifying his position at the top of the list. The previous record holder, Mohammad Azharuddin, had 156 catches to his name, followed by Sachin Tendulkar with 140 catches, Rahul Dravid with 124 catches, and Suresh Raina with 102 catches.

Kohli’s Achievements in ODI Cricket

Apart from his fielding prowess, Virat Kohli is also known for his exceptional batting skills. He currently ranks as the third-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket, trailing behind Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Kohli is just 15 runs away from reaching the prestigious 14,000 ODI run milestone, a feat that only a few cricketers have accomplished in the history of the sport.

India’s Performance in the Match

In the match against Pakistan, India’s bowlers put up a stellar performance to restrict the opposition to a total of 241 runs. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also made headlines by becoming the fifth Indian spinner to claim 300 international wickets. Joining the ranks of legendary spinners such as Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep achieved this milestone by dismissing Salman Ali Agha in the 43rd over.

Looking Ahead

With a target of 242 runs to chase down for victory, India will be aiming to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team will face a challenging task against Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack, including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed. Despite the tough competition, India will rely on their batting depth and experience to successfully complete the run chase and advance in the Champions Trophy.

Overall, Virat Kohli’s record-breaking performance and India’s strong showing in the match against Pakistan highlight the team’s determination and skill in international cricket. As they continue their campaign in the tournament, fans can expect more thrilling moments and exceptional performances from the Indian cricket team.
