Andrew Scott Scores Double Emmy Nomination for Netflix’s “Ripley”
Irish actor Andrew Scott has garnered two Emmy nominations for his role in the Netflix series “Ripley,” which is adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s crime novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and set in 1960s New York. Scott portrays the titular character, a con artist hired by a wealthy family to bring their wayward son back from Italy.
Scott’s nominations include Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and another for his work as a producer in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category.
The Emmy Awards recognize exceptional artistic and technical achievements in both American and international television. Although other Irish actors, such as Colin Farrell for Apple TV’s “Sugar” and Sharon Horgan for Amazon’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” were expected to be nominated, they did not receive nods this year.
The drama series “Shogun,” which takes viewers to early 17th-century Japan, led the Emmy nominations with 25 nods. The comedy series “The Bear” set a record with 23 nominations in a single year, while “True Detective: Night Country” topped the limited series category with 19 nominations.
This year’s Emmy Awards, set for September 15, will be the second ceremony in 2024, following last year’s rescheduled January event due to Hollywood strikes. Adding to the complexity, some shows like “The Bear” have recently aired new seasons that won’t be eligible for awards until the 2025 Emmys.
The upcoming Emmy Awards will celebrate television series broadcast between June 2023 and May 2024.
