Anupriya Patel, president of the Apna Dal (Soneylal), is expected to secure a cabinet position in the upcoming Modi government 3.0. Narendra Modi will be inaugurated for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister today. Initially, around 30 ministers will be sworn in.

Here are 5 points on Anupriya Patel

  1. Born in 1981 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Ms. Patel has been serving as the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry since 2021.

  2. Ms. Patel has represented Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh since 2014 and has been the president of the Apna Dal (Soneylal) party since 2016.

  3. From 2016 to 2019, she served as the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

  4. A psychology graduate from Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College in Delhi and an MBA, Ms. Patel began her political career by winning the 2012 UP election. She is the daughter of Soney Lal Patel, a founder of the Apna Dal (Soneylal) party.

  5. In 2015, Ms. Patel was suspended for six years by her mother Krishna Patel, then the chief of Apna Dal, due to “anti-party activities” and was stripped of all posts. However, in 2016, she became the youngest member among the 19 new ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. At that time, Krishna Patel had threatened to sever ties with the BJP if her daughter was made a minister.
