Andy Murray announces retirement after Paris Olympics

Andy Murray, a two-time Olympic men’s singles champion, has confirmed that he will be retiring next week at the Paris Games. The 37-year-old shared the news on social media, stating that he has arrived in Paris for his final tennis tournament. The tennis event at the Paris Olympics will kick off on Saturday at Roland Garros, where Murray will be competing.

Murray, who won his first gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and defended his title in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, expressed his pride in representing Britain throughout his career. He mentioned that competing for his country has been the most memorable part of his career, and he is honored to do it one final time at the Paris Games.

Despite undergoing hip replacement surgery in 2019 and dealing with several injuries, Murray has continued to push through. He recently had to withdraw from Wimbledon after a procedure to remove a cyst from his spine.
