New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Extend Support to Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s New Chief Minister

Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Delhi Chief Ministers, have expressed their support for Rekha Gupta after she was chosen as the new Chief Minister of Delhi by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Support for Development

Both Kejriwal and Atishi quickly reacted to the announcement, stating that they would support Gupta in her efforts for the development of Delhi. They expressed hope that the new Chief Minister and the BJP would fulfill all the promises made to the people of Delhi.

Kejriwal tweeted, “Congratulations to Rekha Gupta on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. I hope that the BJP will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support them in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi.”

Atishi also added, “I congratulate Rekha Gupta on becoming the Chief Minister. I hope that the BJP will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party is always ready to support the BJP in the development works of Delhi.”

Expectations on Promises

Atishi reminded the BJP of its promise to provide Rs 2,500 per month to women and expressed hope that this amount would be transferred to the accounts of all women in Delhi on March 8.

Focus on Women in BJP’s Poll Promises

The BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections marked the end of AAP’s 10-year rule in the capital. The party’s poll promises focused on women, with commitments such as monthly aid for women, financial assistance for pregnant women, affordable LPG cylinders, and pension for senior citizens.

The Delhi Women and Child Development Department has been tasked with preparing schemes centered around women, with announcements expected on International Women’s Day on March 8.

Swearing-In and Oath Ceremony

Rekha Gupta met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to stake a claim to form the government after being chosen as the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly by the BJP. She will take the oath of office at Ramlila Maidan, becoming the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi.

Key political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are expected to attend the ceremony. Gupta, a former Delhi University Students’ Union president and civic body councilor, will be the only incumbent woman Chief Minister in any BJP-ruled state.
