Bureaucrat and Family Found Dead at Kerala Home, Police Investigating Possible Suicide

The Tragic Incident in Kerala

An additional commissioner of central excise and GST, along with his mother and sister, were found dead at their residence in Kerala, in what police suspect to be a case of death by suicide. The incident shocked the local community and left many questions unanswered.

Discovery of the Tragedy

The incident came to light when Manish Vijay’s colleagues went to his house after he did not return to work following a four-day leave. Upon reaching the official’s residence, they were greeted with a strong stench and immediately alerted the police. Tragically, Manish and his sister, Shalini, were found hanging in separate rooms, while their mother, Shakunthala, was found dead on the bed. The presence of the mother’s body draped in a white cloth with flowers beside her raised suspicions that she may have been killed first before the siblings took their own lives.

Investigation and Diary Note

The police discovered a diary in one of the rooms with a note indicating that their sister living abroad should be informed of their death. The family, originally from Jharkhand, had been residing at the Kakkanad Customs Quarters in Kerala’s Ernakulam district. Manish had previously worked in Customs Preventive at Kozhikode Airport before transferring to Kochi, and his mother and sister had recently moved in with him.

Legal Troubles and Tragic History

Shalini, who had ranked first in the 2006 Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) exam and was appointed as a deputy collector, was facing legal challenges that ultimately led to her dismissal. A CBI inquiry in 2024 resulted in a chargesheet, and the trial proceedings were ongoing at the time of the tragic incident.

Post-Mortem and Ongoing Investigation

The post-mortem on the bodies will commence once their third sibling arrives from abroad. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The post-mortem examinations of the three bodies will take place once their sister reaches India, providing more insights into this heartbreaking incident.

Conclusion

The community is reeling from the loss of three lives in such tragic circumstances. As the investigation unfolds and more details come to light, the hope is that it will provide some closure and understanding to the family and friends left behind.
