Chaos Erupts in Delhi Assembly Over AAP MLA’s Post on How Photo Was Taken

Chaos in Delhi Assembly Over MLA’s Social Media Post

The Delhi Assembly was in turmoil today as a post made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh on social media during the House proceedings sparked controversy. Singh took a photo during the session and posted it online, leading to criticism from BJP MLAs. The assembly speaker reprimanded him, emphasizing that taking photos in the House is considered a breach of privilege.

Controversial Social Media Post

In the now-deleted post, the AAP MLA raised concerns about discussions taking place in the absence of ministers. This post caused an uproar among BJP MLAs, who demanded action against Singh. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma called it a serious matter, as photography during sessions is prohibited.

Calls for Action

BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar went a step further by suggesting that Singh’s phone be confiscated and the matter be referred to a committee for further action. The speaker, Vijender Gupta, demanded an apology from Singh and instructed him to delete the post, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

AAP MLA’s Response

Despite expressing regret for his post, Singh defended his actions, stating that he was trying to highlight the absence of ministers from the House. He eventually deleted the post after repeated warnings from the speaker and BJP MLAs.

Controversy Over CAG Report

The assembly also saw heated debates between the ruling BJP and AAP over the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the city’s health infrastructure and management. The audit reports have been a contentious issue between the two parties, leading to recent suspensions of AAP MLAs for their protests.

Resumption of Assembly Proceedings

This session marked the return of MLAs to the assembly after the suspensions. The tensions and disagreements between the BJP and AAP continue to impact the functioning of the Delhi Assembly, with social media posts and audit reports adding fuel to the fire.

Overall, the incident involving the social media post serves as a reminder of the delicate balance of power and privilege within the legislative body, with both sides eager to assert their positions and hold each other accountable.
