City Faces Severe Waterlogging and Traffic Jams, with Continued Rainfall Expected

Atishi, the Education Minister of Delhi, declared that all educational institutions in the capital, whether public or private, will be closed today due to heavy rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that clouds had gathered over Delhi from all sides, leading to a warning for residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening, providing relief from the muggy conditions. However, the precipitation led to traffic congestion across the city.
Flooding was documented in various areas. Multiple airlines have issued warnings about flights being redirected or advising passengers to depart early and confirm the status of their flights.
As per the IMD, sporadic showers are expected in Delhi until August 5.

- The IMD has cautioned that the showers are likely to cause slippery roads, low visibility, traffic disruptions, and localised waterlogging in low-lying areas.
- According to the IMD, sporadic showers are expected in Delhi until August 5.
- Rain lashed several parts of Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening, providing relief from the muggy conditions. However, the downpour led to traffic congestion across the city.
- Due to the inclement weather, Delhi witnessed 10 flight diversions reported between 7.30 pm and 8pm, according to airport sources.
- Extreme waterlogging was observed near AIIMS after continuous rainfall in the capital.
- Traffic jams were also observed in the ITO area of Delhi after rainfall hit the city.
- Atishi, the Education Minister of Delhi, announced that all educational institutions in the capital, whether public or private, will be closed today due to heavy rainfall.
- Taking to her official handle on microblogging site X, Atishi posted on Wednesday, “In light of the very heavy rainfall today evening and the forecast of heavy rainfall tomorrow, all educational institutions–public and private–will remain closed tomorrow.”
- Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi also posted on her X handle and said that all educational institutions under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be closed on August 1 due to the forecast of adverse weather conditions.
