Congress MLAs Stay Overnight in Rajasthan Assembly Following Controversy over “Dadi” Remark
Six Congress MLAs Spend Night in Rajasthan Assembly Well
Six Congress MLAs, including Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, spent the night in the Well of the House after being suspended from the remaining period of the Budget Session of the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday.
Sit-in Protest and Sleeping on Bedding
After being suspended, the MLAs first staged a sit-in protest in the House against their suspensions. Later, they were seen sleeping on bedding in the Well of the House as a form of protest.
Chaos in Rajasthan Assembly
The chaos in the Rajasthan Assembly erupted over a remark made by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot during the Question Hour. The remark, regarding hostels for working women, led to three adjournments of the House and the suspension of the six Congress MLAs.
Uproar and Suspension
Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully objected strongly to the minister’s remarks and demanded the removal of the “inappropriate word” from the record. This led to several Congress MLAs protesting and moving towards the well of the House.
The House was adjourned multiple times, and when proceedings resumed, government chief whip Jogeshwar Garg announced the suspension of the six Congress MLAs for the remaining period of the current budget session.
Allegations and Protests
Senior Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, criticized the BJP-led government for trying to suppress the voice of the opposition. They accused the government of hiding its failures and adopting a dictatorial attitude.
Congress has announced a statewide protest against the remarks made by the minister and the suspension of the MLAs.
The situation in the Rajasthan Assembly remains tense as the suspended MLAs continue their protest in the Well of the House.
