Delhi’s Future Chief Minister: Could a Woman Lead the Way? Speculation Mounts During BJP Planning Session

The BJP’s Search for the Next Chief Minister of Delhi

In the aftermath of the BJP’s landslide victory in the Delhi elections, speculation is rife about who will be appointed as the next Chief Minister of the capital city. While the party leadership has yet to make an official announcement, several names are being tossed around as potential candidates for the top post.

Potential Contenders

One of the frontrunners for the position is Parvesh Verma, who gained popularity after defeating AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Verma, a former two-time MP from West Delhi and the son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, is seen as a strong contender for the role. Other names being considered include former Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, newly elected Malviya Nagar MLA, senior party leader Vijender Gupta, Janakpuri MLA Ashish Sood, and Uttam Nagar legislator Pawan Sharma. However, the BJP is known for surprising choices when it comes to selecting its Chief Minister.

Potential Gender and Caste Considerations

Sources within the party have hinted that a woman MLA could also be in contention for the Chief Minister’s position. Among the BJP’s newly elected legislators, there are four women – Neelam Pahalwan, Rekha Gupta, Poonam Sharma, and Shikha Roy. Additionally, the party may also consider caste equations and opt for an MLA from the Scheduled Caste. Four of the BJP MLAs belong to the Scheduled Caste category.

Government Formation Discussions

Following the BJP’s victory in 48 out of the 70 Assembly seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and party chief JP Nadda held discussions on the next steps. Nadda later met with Shah to deliberate on the government formation process. With the Prime Minister set to travel to the US, sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister is likely to take place after his return. The BJP plans to organize a grand oath event to commemorate its return to power in the capital after 26 years, with Chief Ministers from all NDA-ruled states expected to be invited to the ceremony.

Overall, the BJP’s search for the next Chief Minister of Delhi is ongoing, with various factors such as gender, caste, and political experience being taken into consideration in the decision-making process.
