Everything You Need to Know About the MG Windsor EV Before Its September 11 Launch in India

The forthcoming MG Windsor electric vehicle (EV) will be launched in India next month, as confirmed by the company. The anticipation for its arrival has been building for months since it was revealed that it will be a rebranded version of the Wuling Cloud EV, which is currently on sale in Indonesia and various other markets. The Morris Garages electric vehicle is all set to make its debut in India on September 11, marking the first vehicle from the company to be introduced since the establishment of JSW MG Motor India, a collaboration between India’s JSW Group and China-based SAIC Motor.

It is anticipated to be the third offering from the company in the Indian EV market, joining the MG ZS and Comet EV – two vehicles catering to different buyer segments. The MG ZS EV competes with the newly launched Tata Curvv EV in terms of pricing, while the MG Comet targets entry-level buyers.

Before its official launch, here’s everything we know about the upcoming MG Windsor EV.

Expected Price of MG Windsor EV in India
The Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia starts at IDR 398 million (approximately Rs. 21 lakh). Speculation suggests that the pricing in India will be similar, with the base model expected to be priced just under Rs. 20 lakh. At this price point, it will compete with vehicles like the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 400 in the Indian EV market.

If the speculated pricing turns out to be accurate, the MG Winsor EV will be positioned between the MG Comet and ZS EV in the company’s electric vehicle lineup.

Expected Design and Dimensions of MG Windsor EV
The MG Windsor EV, expected to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, may have similar specifications upon its launch in India. The car has been dubbed a “CUV” by MG, a crossover between a hatchback and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), inspired by the Windsor Castle in Berkshire, UK.

The MG Windsor EV is expected to be around 4.3m in length with a wheelbase of 2,700mm, surpassing that of the MG ZS EV. It may have a width of 1,850 mm and a height of 1,652 mm. The vehicle is likely to be introduced in a five-seater configuration.

Expected Battery and Powertrain Options of MG ZS EV
The Indonesian variant of the EV offers two battery options: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh, with claimed ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. Both batteries utilize lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) cells, similar to the technology used in the MG ZS EV. The powertrain is expected to be a single permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, mounted at the front axle.

Expected Features of MG ZS EV
Teasers shared by MG on social media confirm that the Windsor EV will come with 135-degree reclining seats referred to as “aero lounge”. The vehicle may also feature dual-tone interiors with black upholstery, space for three passengers at the back, rear AC vents, LED headlamps, tail-lamps, an integrated spoiler, large alloy wheels, and flush-fitting door handles.

The interior is likely to include a panoramic sunroof and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a floating design, 360-degree camera, 6-way and 4-way electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, wireless charging, and an electrically operated tailgate. Safety features may include ABS, EBD, ESP, Hill-Hold assist, four airbags, TPMS, an electric parking brake with auto hold, and potentially an ADAS suite with lane departure warning, autonomous cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
