Hotelier Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault Attempt in Kozhikode

A hotelier in Kozhikode, Kerala, who had been on the run after a woman employee jumped from the first floor of a building while resisting his alleged sexual assault attempt, has been apprehended by the police. The accused, identified as Devadas, was captured by the Mukkam police from Kunnamkulam during a bus journey on Tuesday night.

Arrest of the Accused

Authorities received a tip-off about Devadas’ movements, leading to a team of police officers intercepting the bus and arresting him. He was taken to the Mukkam police station in the early hours of Wednesday for further investigation.

Details of the Incident

Devadas, who operates a hotel in the district, was accused of forcing his way into the room of a female employee at her rented accommodation on Saturday night. Accompanied by two individuals named Riyas and Suresh, he allegedly attempted to assault the woman, prompting her to jump from the building to escape.

Manhunt for Accomplices

While Devadas is now in custody, his accomplices, Riyas and Suresh, are still at large. Police have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend them in connection with the incident.

Victim’s Testimony

The victim, hailing from Payyannur in Kannur, had recently joined Devadas’ hotel. She recounted how the trio barged into her room while she was engrossed in a video game on her phone, leaving her with no choice but to leap from the building to evade the assault.

Response and Recovery

Upon hearing the woman’s distress, neighbors and passersby came to her aid, swiftly transporting her to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim’s family later shared mobile footage capturing the assault attempt and her desperate escape, shedding light on the traumatic ordeal.

Legal Action and Victim’s Condition

Authorities have charged the accused under relevant sections of the law, with the hotel owner’s arrest set to be formally documented. Meanwhile, the victim is receiving medical care at a local hospital, where she is being treated for hip and hand fractures. Reports indicate that her condition is currently stable as she recuperates from the injuries sustained during the incident.
