Gautam Gambhir Takes Charge as India Prepares for White-Ball Series in Sri Lanka
Pallekele, Sri Lanka – Gautam Gambhir has officially assumed his role as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. The team began their preparations in Pallekele for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, with Gambhir leading the first practice session.
Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid, conducted the training session focused on fielding drills, running, catching, and one-on-one interactions. New T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also engaged with the players, ensuring a comprehensive practice session.
During the session, Gambhir provided batting tips to Sanju Samson and had discussions with all-rounder Shivam Dube. Joining Gambhir’s coaching staff are former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Netherlands batter Ryan ten Doeschate, both of whom collaborated with Gambhir to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title.
Their tenure with the national team begins with the T20I series starting on July 27, followed by three ODIs. T Dilip continues as the fielding coach, while Sairaj Bahutule from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru steps in as the interim bowling coach.
