Harris likely to choose Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate
Deputy President Kamala Harris is ready to select Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate to assist her in challenging Donald Trump and JD Vance in November.
Walz, 60, gained prominence in the veepstakes due to his online popularity with his down-to-earth characteristics and viral remarks labeling Trump and Vance as “eccentric.”
He enlisted in the Army National Guard and worked as a high school social studies educator and football mentor before winning a seat in Congress in 2006.
He secured six consecutive terms in the U.S. House representing a rural portion of the state that traditionally leaned conservative.
As governor, he has enacted a variety of progressive policies, including mandatory family leave, universal school breakfast and lunch programs, legalization of recreational cannabis consumption, state recognition of abortion rights, and firearm control measures such as comprehensive background checks and red flag laws.
Acting as a representative for Harris in recent weeks, Walz has commended her for revitalizing Democrats and defended her track record against Trump’s accusations of being “hyper-liberal.”
“He will introduce it, mispronounce names, you know, to attempt to present the argument,” Walz stated regarding Trump’s criticisms of Harris during a recent appearance on CNN. “The reality is that when you observe the policies that Vice President Harris helped formulate, Democratic governors across the nation implemented those policies and quality of life has improved, economies are thriving, various aspects such as educational achievement have seen enhancements.”
