Indian Equity Market Achieves Historic Milestone, Surpasses USD 4 Trillion Mark for the First Time
The collective market worth of all registered corporations on the primary stock exchange BSE has achieved the milestone of USD 4 trillion for the very first time today.
In the early hours of trading, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose by 305.44 points to 66,479.64 after starting the day positively.
Due to the positive outlook in stocks, the market capitalization of BSE-listed businesses reached Rs 3,33,26,881.49 crore in the morning session, equating to USD 4 trillion at the current exchange rate of 83.31.
While the BSE benchmark Sensex has surged by 5,540.52 points or 9.10 percent this year, the market value of all listed companies on its platform has increased by approximately Rs 50.81 lakh crore.
The 30-share benchmark achieved its highest point of 67,927.23 on September 15 this year.
Other markets with a market capitalization exceeding USD 4 trillion include the United States, China, Japan, and Hong Kong.
On May 24, 2021, the overall market capitalization of all listed corporations on the BSE hit the USD 3-trillion threshold.
The exchange witnessed the market value of listed companies surpassing the USD 1-trillion mark on May 28, 2007.
The journey from USD 1 trillion to USD 1.5 trillion was completed in 2,566 days, or just over seven years, on June 6, 2014.
The market capitalization of its listed firms hit USD 2 trillion on July 10, 2017, taking 1,130 days from the USD 1.5-trillion level.
Subsequently, it took 1,255 days to exceed the USD 2.5-trillion milestone on December 16, 2020.
