Indian Student Nilam Shinde Fighting for Life in California Hospital
Overview
Nilam Shinde, a 35-year-old Indian student from Maharashtra’s Satara district, is currently in critical condition at a hospital in California, US, following a serious accident earlier this month. Despite some minor improvements in her health, she remains in a coma with critical injuries.
The Accident
Ms. Shinde, a final-year postgraduate student at California State University, was hit by a car on February 14 while out for an evening walk. The accident resulted in severe injuries to her arms, legs, head, and chest.
Current Situation
She is currently being treated at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, in a comatose state. The hospital has requested her father to come to the US as soon as possible to assist with medical care planning decisions.
According to the California State University, Ms. Shinde’s condition is critical with an uncertain prognosis, and she is currently in the Intensive Care Unit on life support.
Visa Request
India has reached out to the US government regarding a visa application for relatives of Nilam Shinde to be able to visit her in the hospital. The family is seeking an emergency visa for her father and uncle to be by her side during this difficult time.
Updates on Condition
There has been a slight improvement in Ms. Shinde’s condition, with a reduction in brain pressure and normalized blood pressure. However, she remains in a coma, and the hospital has requested permission to operate on her, necessitating the presence of a blood relative.
Ms. Shinde’s father, Tanaji Shinde, is being accompanied to the US by a family member to be with his daughter during this critical period.
The family is hopeful for Nilam Shinde’s recovery and is grateful for the support and prayers from well-wishers during this challenging time.
