Indians Rescued from Capsized Vessel Near Oman Being Looked After: Minister
New Delhi:
Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, announced on Thursday that eight Indians rescued from a Comoros-flagged vessel that capsized on July 15 have reached shore and are receiving care. The Indian Navy and Omani authorities carried out the rescue operation.
“I spoke with our Ambassador in Oman, Amit Narang, for an update on the capsized vessel MV Prestige Falcon. I am relieved to report that the eight Indians rescued by INS Teg have made it ashore and are being looked after. Sadly, the body of one Indian has been retrieved,” the minister shared on X.
He emphasized that the government is vigilantly monitoring the situation and providing all necessary assistance.
“I extend my gratitude to the authorities in India and Oman who are involved in this process. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family” said the MoS.
The Indian Navy’s mission-deployed warship INS Teg rescued nine personnel, including eight Indians and one Sri Lankan, while assisting the capsized Oil Tanker MV Prestige Falcon.
The vessel reportedly had a crew of 16, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans. The Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I also supported the search mission.
