Independence Day 2024: It is distinguished by raising the national flag and singing the national anthem.
India attained liberty from the British colonial rulers after an extended struggle on August 15, 1947. On this date, we commemorate the freedom fighters who battled for our nation’s independence. Numerous prominent structures across the country are illuminated in the hues of the flag. Annually, it is distinguished by raising the national flag and singing the national anthem. People arrange cultural events and conferences to honor the freedom fighters who gave up their lives for India’s freedom.
Is India Observing The 77th Or 78th Independence Day In 2024?
The debate revolves around two hypotheses- whether the date can be calculated from August 15, 1947, the day India secured independence, or from the day it commemorated its first anniversary one year later.
India will be celebrating its 78th anniversary of gaining independence if we calculate from the day of independence. Nonetheless, as of August 15, 1948, it is the 77th Independence Day.
The Press Information Bureau declared that August 15, 2022, was recognized as the 76th Independence Day. Hence, according to the schedule that our government follows, this year will signify India’s 78th Independence Day.
