Kalkaji Extension Residents Seek Help from Police

New Delhi:

No longer tolerating the inconvenience caused by cattle on the street and massive commercial vehicles unlawfully parked in a residential area in Delhi, an umbrella organization of resident welfare associations (RWAs) based in south Delhi has urged the police to take action before any serious incident occurs.

Complaining to the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Kalkaji, the Federation of RWAs stated that the situation in the area is becoming increasingly dangerous, especially with a school nearby.

The RWA officials have identified an individual who brings numerous cattle onto the street daily.

Regarding illegal trucks occupying residential space, the RWA, in their complaint to the police, mentioned that such vehicles not only block the roads, making it challenging for residents to move around, but also create a dangerous environment for pedestrians.

“The blocked roads impede emergency services and contribute to traffic congestion, raising the risk of accidents,” the RWA stated in the complaint.

“The senior police officer listened attentively and promptly directed his officers to address the issues we raised. He has pledged his complete support and cooperation going forward,” stated RWA general secretary Harjinder Singh Harry.

Waste being dumped near the entrance of Pocket A3 has caused tensions between the inhabitants and outsiders. The residents express frustration over having to clean the area near the entrance repeatedly, while outsiders continue to treat it as a dumping ground. A large commercial establishment right across the entrance keeps bringing in trucks, blocking the residents’ vehicles daily.

The RWA presented a three-point plan of action – relocate stray cattle from the residential area to shelters; clear all areas in the residential zone of unlawfully parked commercial vehicles, and eliminate encroachment by street vendors in front of the entrances of Pocket 4 in Kalkaji Extension.

Several residents have reported being threatened by drivers of commercial vehicles when asked not to park in the residential area, according to RWA members. Some claim they have been reporting this problem to the police for a long time, but have not seen any action taken.

In February, a man lost his life after being attacked by a bull outside a school in Kalkaji Extension. This incident raised concerns among residents as many children walk to this school, passing by the stray animals.
