Kashmiri Student Subjected to Brutal Ragging and Assault at Medical College in Karnataka

Alleged Assault at Al-Ameen Medical College

A second-year MBBS student named Hameem was allegedly assaulted at Al-Ameen Medical College in Karnataka’s Vijayapura. Hameem, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, claimed that he was a victim of brutal ragging and threats by senior students from the 2019 batch. The incident reportedly took place during a cricket match on the college premises.

Incident Details

The altercation began when Hameem was watching a cricket match between the 2019 and 2022 batches. A senior student ordered him to stay outside the boundary line, which Hameem complied with. However, tensions escalated when a group of seniors confronted him, questioned his presence, and demanded that he leave. Despite their demands, Hameem refused to go, leading the seniors to humiliate him by forcing him to sing and dance for their amusement.

Things took a violent turn when the seniors tried to force Hameem into a car and became more aggressive when he attempted to record the incident on his phone. Later that night, a group of 6-8 individuals entered Hameem’s hostel room and assaulted him, coercing him to record a video apologizing under duress. They also threatened him, warning that his life at the college would be made miserable.

Arrest of the Accused

All the accused individuals involved in the incident have been arrested. The authorities are investigating the matter further to ensure justice for the victim and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Reaction and Condemnation

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, condemned the attack, describing it as a deeply disturbing case of ragging and violence. He called on the Karnataka Chief Minister to intervene personally, expedite justice for the victim, and take strict action against those responsible to deter such incidents in educational institutions.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for action to address the issue of ragging and ensure the safety and well-being of students in educational institutions.
