Kerala: Class 10 Student Dies After Nunchuck Attack during Farewell Clash

Tragic Incident in Kerala

A tragic incident occurred in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, where a 15-year-old student passed away due to severe head injuries sustained during a clash with fellow students. The altercation, which reportedly involved the use of a nunchuck, a martial arts weapon, took place near a private tuition center in Thamarassery.

Details of the Incident

The deceased student, Muhammed Shahabas, was a Class 10 student at MJ Higher Secondary School. He was rushed to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

According to Kozhikode Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) KE Baiju, a murder case has been filed against five Class 10 students from the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Thamarassery. The authorities believe that the clash stemmed from a dispute that arose during a farewell party at the tuition center.

Sequence of Events

The altercation turned physical around 5 pm on February 23, leading to Shahabas fleeing to a nearby mall for safety. Instead of seeking immediate medical help, he got on a motorcycle with someone, vomited while on the bike, and then proceeded to a friend’s house to rest. It was only later that his deteriorating condition prompted a visit to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital.

Initially, doctors at the Taluk Hospital failed to recognize the severity of Shahabas’ injuries. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where he remained in a coma until his unfortunate demise.

Legal Action and Investigation

Five students involved in the incident have been apprehended and will face the Juvenile Justice Board. In response to the tragedy, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has instructed the Director of General Education to conduct an internal inquiry into the matter.

The community mourns the loss of Muhammed Shahabas, and authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case.
