“Leader” Suryakumar Yadav Makes Bold Statement After India’s Clean Sweep Against Sri Lanka
Suryakumar Yadav’s heart is pulsating with delight observing his teammates support each other, as he embarks on his journey to evolve into a leader of men rather than just a captain of a cricket team. In his inaugural series as full-time T20I captain, Suryakumar clinched the ‘Player of The Series’ accolade after two exceptional innings in the initial two matches, but claiming two wickets with his off-breaks in a thrilling Super Over triumph was the cherry on top.
“As I mentioned prior to the series, I don’t aspire to be the captain, I aspire to be the leader,” Suryakumar expressed at the post-match presentation ceremony.
He couldn’t help but commend his teammates, who displayed immense determination in defending a modest 137.
“The level of skill they possess, self-belief, it simplifies my task. The optimism, the mutual concern is remarkable. After the previous game, I informed a few players would be rested and they were prepared to sit out.
“They have facilitated my job. I feel minimal pressure when I bat,” he remarked.
The Indian skipper suggested that akin to relishing tall scores of 220 or 230, one should also relish low-scoring matches, which signifies attaining a balance in lives.
“More than the final over, I believe when we were around 30/4 and 48 for 5, how the boys exhibited character, 140 was a par score on that surface. I mentioned, if we exert our hearts, we could achieve it.”
Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka couldn’t explain what went amiss with the middle-order in all three matches.
“Certainly, truly disheartened, particularly the middle-order and lower-middle order. Very poor shot selection. The notion was spinners were bowling and that’s why Wanindu Hasaranga came up the order and we granted him the freedom to strike one or two boundaries,” Asalanka expressed.
“I believe especially we played some incorrect shots and when the ball gets old, the shot selection must be precise. We can’t offer excuses and we need to surpass this.
“I anticipate witnessing a commendable batting performance in ODIs and I believe the boys will excel,” the disheartened Lankan skipper appended.
