Man fatally shot in targeted attack on his way to mosque for evening prayers
A 43-year-old male on his way to evening prayers at a Philadelphia mosque Tuesday was shot multiple times and killed in what authorities described as an “execution-style homicide.”
A perpetrator is still at large, law enforcement stated. A motive remains unknown at this time.
Law enforcement responded to reports of gunshots and a shooting on the 1500 block of Germantown Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. ET, officials stated.
The individual was discovered lying in the parking lot of the mosque with multiple gunshot injuries — including several to his chest and torso and at least one to his head, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small reported. The victim was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased, he added.
The assailant, dressed in dark-colored attire, fled the parking area and entered a vehicle, Small revealed.
Security footage captured the shooting in the parking lot, Small mentioned.
“Our victim was clearly targeted,” he said.

The male accompanying the victim emerged unharmed, according to authorities.
Seventeen discharged shell casings were recovered at the scene, discharged from a large caliber semi-automatic firearm, Small disclosed.
The suspected vehicle is thought to be a dark-colored sedan with a spare or temporary tire, Small added.
