Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer amusingly teased ex-England star Michael Vaughan in a light-hearted exchange. Recently, the Rohit Sharma-led team faltered against Sri Lanka spinners and surrendered the ODI series by 2-0. During a Q&A on X, Vaughan ribbed Jaffer by inquiring about India’s recent performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. “Hello, Wasim .. What was the outcome of the recent ODI series in Sri Lanka? I’ve been away and missed it. Hope everything is fine,” Jaffer penned on X.

Jaffer retorted to Vaughan by mentioning England’s performance in the Ashes, where the Three Lions last triumphed in 2015.

“I’ll present it in Ashes terms for you Michael. Ind triumphed in as many matches in that series as the Tests Eng have secured in Aus in the past 12 years,” Jaffer stated on X.

Jaffer previously expressed that India’s series loss didn’t worry him, but he found it concerning that India only have three more ODIs remaining before the ICC Champions Trophy next year.

Avishka Fernando’s 96-run innings and Dunith Wellalage’s five-wicket haul led Sri Lanka to a 110-run victory over India in the third ODI match of the series at the R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.

This marked India’s initial ODI assignment following their devastating defeat to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup at home last year in November. It also served as their first series leading up to next year’s Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan.

India’s upcoming ODIs will consist of a home series of three matches against England in February next year.

“Victories and defeats are part of the sport. Nevertheless, it’s a matter of concern that India has only 3 ODIs before the Champions Trophy,” Jaffer stated on X.

Prior to their next ODI series, India will participate in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
