Mixed Reactions to McDonald’s New “No Onion, No Garlic” Burgers for Shravan Month

Shravan is a sacred month in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva. Throughout this period, followers observe various ceremonies, fasts, and prayers, often refraining from meat, fish, and eggs. Those who fast may adhere to even stricter dietary rules, avoiding ingredients such as garlic and onions. As per a video, McDonald’s India has unveiled a unique menu this year, showcasing the McCheese Burger and the McAloo Tikki Burger, both prepared without onions or garlic.

A food enthusiast posted a video on her Instagram account ‘eat.around.the.city’ introducing McDonald’s exclusive Shravan menu on Instagram. In the description, she stated, “This Shravan, prepare to enjoy the new Shravan Special Menu from McDonald’s! It features the legendary McAloo Tikki burger, now offered with no onion and no garlic. They also offer the traditional McCheese Burger Veg, which is devoid of onion, garlic, and roots. Moreover, the new Flavours of India McAloo Tikki is also free from onion and garlic.”

“I tried the Shravan Special meal and it was delightful. Additionally, I received a backstage look during a kitchen tour – it was fantastic to witness McDonald’s having entirely separate areas for veg and non-veg food preparation,” she remarked.

Nevertheless, the decision caused a split among social media users. While some users appear to approve of it, many did not. A few mentioned that dining out should be entirely avoided during Shravan. Others raised the issue that burger buns are crafted with all-purpose flour, which is not the ideal choice during the sacred month.

One user commented, “Why even indulge in such gourmet cuisine during this sacred month? For at least 1 month, consume home-cooked meals.”

Another remarked, “Eventually, McD will introduce sabudana burgers for those observing the fast.”

“But they also serve non-veg dishes. So, how can one partake in the Shravan special at McDonald’s,” pondered a user.

Someone humorously stated, “McDonald laughing silently: Kuch bhi lapet ke do ye khaa lenge. (Wrap anything up and they will eat it).”
