Mumbai Police Crack Murder Case with Assistance from Constable’s Speech-Impaired Son
Mumbai:
The astonishing homicide of a deaf and mute man from Mumbai has been resolved with the aid of a deaf and mute young man, the offspring of a law enforcement constable. In what was labeled the “affection quadrangle murder” and ‘bag murder”, the corpse of 30-year-old Arshadali Sadiqueali Shaikh was discovered in a bag in Dadar station on August 5.
Following a significant altercation over a woman in an alleged love quadrangle, two comrades of the victim, Jai Pravin Chawda and Shivjeet Surendra Singh, had purportedly bludgeoned him to death with a mallet. They had crammed his remains in a handcart and Chavda was witnessed hauling it on Platform No. 11 of Dadar station, presumably to discard it. But he aroused the suspicion of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, who pursued him and eventually unearthed the corpse.
However, the Mumbai police, who assumed control of the case, promptly confronted an issue. The accused were incapable of speaking or hearing, and no one in the police was proficient in sign language. When Rajesh Satpute, a constable of RA Kidwai police station stationed at the barricade during the night, learned about this, he phoned his son, who is also deaf and mute.
When asked about his son’s response upon receiving the call, Rajesh Satpute mentioned that Gaurav had “consented to my appeal”. “His father was seeking assistance, so he agreed to help and provided valuable aid,” he further added.
Around 2 am, Gaurav arrived at Dadar station with his father. The police had a written questionnaire prepared, and he interrogated the suspects using sign language.
Based on the questioning, the police detained the spouse of the victim along with another accused, who is also deaf and mute. All three individuals were apparently in conflict over the woman.
Gaurav Satpute, 23, is now hailed as a hero, and Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has honored him for his contributions.
“He attended Sadhna Vidyalaya until Class X. He also completed a pipe fitter program at Mazagon Dock Limited. It was Gaurav’s diligence that enabled the police to comprehend the entire sequence of events,” the proud father informed the press.
