NTPC Official Shot Dead in Hazaribagh

A tragic incident occurred in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district on Saturday, where a 42-year-old NTPC official, Kumar Gaurav, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne gunmen. The victim, who served as the deputy general manager (dispatch) at NTPC’s Keredari coal mines project, fell victim to the assailants near Fatah More under the Katkamdag Police Station limits around 9.30 AM.

Investigation and Detention of Suspects

Following the heinous crime, the Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police, Arvind Kumar Singh, shared that six individuals have been detained for interrogation in connection with Gaurav’s murder. The perpetrators intercepted Gaurav’s car and opened fire, causing his untimely demise. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle was reported missing after the incident, adding another layer of mystery to the case.

Special Investigation Team Formed

In response to the shocking incident, a special investigation team (SIT) led by Barkagaon Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pawan Kumar has been commissioned to delve into the circumstances surrounding the attack. The authorities have initiated a search operation to apprehend the culprits responsible for the brutal murder.

Outrage and Calls for Safety

The community, along with political figures, expressed outrage and concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the region. Jharkhand BJP president and leader of the opposition in the assembly, Babulal Marandi, condemned the incident and urged the state Director General of Police (DGP) to prioritize the safety of all project officials, staff, and businesses operating in coal mine areas.

Marandi raised alarming allegations regarding the prevailing criminal activities in the state, highlighting the rampant theft of coal and the lack of adequate measures to combat such illegal practices. He asserted that the criminal elements have grown bolder under the current regime, ultimately leading to tragic incidents like Gaurav’s assassination.

The need for immediate action to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of individuals working in high-risk sectors like coal mining has been underscored by this unfortunate incident. Authorities and policymakers are urged to take decisive steps to address the root causes of such violence and prevent further loss of life in the future.
