Odisha Man Dies By Suicide Due to Mobile Game Addiction and Debt Issues

A 22-year-old man purportedly passed away by suicide after being unable to settle debts he had borrowed from individuals after enduring losses amounting to lakhs of rupees in mobile games, authorities stated on Monday.
The occurrence transpired on Sunday night in Kadubani village under the jurisdiction of the Kaliapani police station, a law enforcement officer said, adding he used to engage in online games and faced substantial financial setbacks.
The deceased, recognized as Srinivasa Nayak also known as Lincon, was the solitary offspring of Brajabandhu Nayak of Kadubani village, the law enforcement officer said.
Lincon dined with his family before retiring to his chamber on Sunday night. When he did not arise in the morning, the alarmed family members knocked on his door.
Thereafter, his family forcibly opened the door of his chamber and discovered his body suspended from the ceiling.
Employed as a contractual laborer in a private mining enterprise, Lincon had purportedly amassed financial losses totaling to several lakhs of rupees while participating in online games on his mobile device.
To alleviate these losses, he had borrowed funds from various self-help organizations in his village through his mother.
Confronted with continuous pressure from creditors to reimburse the debts, Lincon is believed to have taken the extreme measure of terminating his life, the law enforcement officer said.
The authorities subsequently retrieved the body and dispatched it for a post-mortem examination. Subsequent to filing an unnatural death case, the authorities have commenced an inquiry to establish the circumstances leading to Lincon’s suicide.
“We are examining the case to determine the circumstances leading to the suicide of the young man. We are also scrutinizing his financial records, which may provide further insight into the motives behind his resolution,” stated a senior law enforcement officer.
