Intruder Scaled Compound Wall to Attack Saif Ali Khan

The recent attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan shocked many, as details emerged about how the attacker gained entry into the actor’s building in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The Bangladeshi national, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir alias Vijay Das, managed to scale the compound wall of the building and found the security guards sleeping at the time of the incident.

Crime Scene Recreation

The Mumbai police, in their investigation, recreated the crime scene with the accused at the Satguru Sharan building where the actor resides. Khan, who was stabbed repeatedly by the intruder inside his 12-floor apartment in the early hours of January 16, sustained multiple stab wounds and had to undergo emergency surgery at the Lilavati Hospital.

Arrest and Investigation

Three days after the attack, the police arrested the accused from neighbouring Thane city. According to a police official, both security guards at the building were asleep when the attacker entered the premises. The accused managed to enter the building through the main entrance, which did not have any CCTV cameras installed. He took precautions like removing his shoes to avoid making noise and switching off his phone.

No CCTV Cameras in Corridor

The investigation revealed that there were no CCTV cameras installed in the building’s corridor. One security guard was sleeping in the cabin, while the other was near the gate during the incident. To piece together the events leading up to the attack, the police took the accused to various locations he may have visited to have food, change clothes, and board a train.

Accused in Police Custody

The accused, who hails from Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh and had been residing in Mumbai for over five months, was remanded in five-day police custody by a Mumbai court. He had been working odd jobs and was associated with a housekeeping agency during his stay in the city.

Investigation Officer Appointed

Police Inspector (Crime) Ajay Lingnurkar has been appointed as the investigation officer in the case. The accused is being kept in police lockup at either the Bandra or Santacruz police stations, with restricted access to only the investigation officer. He is being provided with the same food as other accused individuals.

The attack on Saif Ali Khan has raised concerns about security measures in residential buildings and the need for enhanced surveillance systems to prevent such incidents in the future. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and establish the motive behind the attack.
