Indian Student Missing in the Dominican Republic: Investigation Underway
A 20-year-old Indian student, Sudiksha Konanki, has gone missing while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. US federal law enforcement agencies are collaborating with authorities in the Caribbean country to investigate her disappearance.
Vacationing in Punta Cana
Konanki, a citizen of India and a permanent resident of the United States, was vacationing with five female college friends at a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. She was reported missing on March 6 while on a spring break trip.
Ongoing Investigation
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is actively assisting US federal law enforcement agencies in working with the Dominican National Police to determine Konanki’s whereabouts and the circumstances of her disappearance. Search efforts, along with a review of surveillance video and telephone records, are underway. The LCSO has filed for a Yellow Notice through INTERPOL for a worldwide police alert for a missing person.
Speculation and Caution
While there has been speculation that Konanki may have drowned in the ocean, the LCSO has cautioned against drawing any unsubstantiated conclusions. They are committed to conducting a thorough investigation before reaching any conclusions. The focus remains on finding Konanki and ensuring her safe return.
Collaboration and Support
The LCSO is collaborating closely with federal partners at the US Department of State, FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations, as well as the University of Pittsburgh Police, to support the ongoing investigation by the Dominican National Police. Konanki’s friends, who were with her at the time of her disappearance, have been questioned by the police but have not been charged with any crimes.
Details of Disappearance
According to sources, Konanki’s clothes were found on a portable beach bed near the beach where she was last seen. There is no evidence of violence, and the man who was last seen with Konanki on the beach is not considered a suspect in her disappearance.
The investigation revealed that Konanki and a group of people went to the beach around 4 am local time on March 6 after visiting a nightclub. While the others returned to their hotel around 5:55 am, the man who stayed behind with Konanki reported that they went for a swim and got caught by a big wave. When he woke up, Konanki was missing.
Hope for a Safe Return
Authorities and Konanki’s family remain hopeful for her safe return. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover the truth behind Konanki’s disappearance.
