Qantas Alters Perth-London Flight Paths Amid Middle East Tensions
In a strategic move, Qantas reroutes its Perth-London flights to circumvent Iranian airspace.
Highlighting the heightened tensions in the Middle East, Australia’s Qantas Airways announced on Saturday that it would temporarily alter the flight paths for its Perth-London route, citing concerns over potential hostilities involving Iran and Israel.
“We are making temporary adjustments to the flight trajectories of our Perth-London flights in light of the developments in certain parts of the Middle East,” stated a spokesperson for Qantas. “We are committed to providing direct communication to our passengers should there be any modifications to their travel arrangements.”
While Qantas reassured that no flights between Perth, the capital of Western Australia, and London had been halted or canceled, it confirmed that flights along this route would now follow an adjusted path via Singapore, according to reports by Reuters.
The airline, headquartered in Sydney, confirmed that its other London-bound flights would maintain their regular routes, diverging from the Perth-London trajectory.
The decision comes amidst escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with the latter preparing for potential retaliatory actions following the recent assassination of a high-ranking Iranian official at the country’s embassy in Damascus. U.S. President Joe Biden expressed anticipation of an imminent attack but urged Tehran to exercise restraint.
