On Friday morning, veteran actor and filmmaker Deb Mukherjee passed away at his residence in suburban Mumbai at the age of 83. The father of director Ayan Mukerji, Deb Mukherjee had been battling a prolonged illness before his passing. His death was confirmed in a statement released by his representative, expressing deep sorrow at his loss.

Deb Mukherjee was a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s. He appeared in supporting roles in several popular films, including “Tu Hi Meri Zindagi”, “Abhinetri”, “Do Aankhen”, “Baton Baton Mein”, “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander”, “King Uncle”, and “Kaminey”. In addition to acting, Mukherjee also directed and produced the 1983 movie “Karate”, featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Kaajal Kiran, and Yogeeta Bali.

Deb Mukherjee belonged to the illustrious Samarth-Mukherjee family, with ties to several well-known personalities in the industry. He was the father-in-law of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and the uncle of Bollywood actors Kajol and Rani Mukerji. His mother, Satidevi, was the only sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. Deb Mukherjee’s brothers were popular actor and filmmaker Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to Bollywood actor Tanuja.

The last rites of Deb Mukherjee were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, with several family members and close friends in attendance to pay their respects.
