Rohit Sharma playfully chases Washington Sundar during 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. Find out the reason behind it by watching!

Rohit Sharma, the leader of the Indian team, continues to be the center of attention for his actions on the field. However, this time, it was not his witty comment captured on the stump microphone that amused everyone, but rather a humorous gesture from the captain. This incident occurred after Washington Sundar hesitated twice in a row while preparing to bowl a delivery against Sri Lanka in the second ODI. While Rohit remained calm the first time, he playfully ran towards Sundar the second time the bowler hesitated.

The Indian spinners, led by Washington Sundar, tested the batters’ skills, but Sri Lanka managed to muster enough resistance from their lower order to reach a respectable total of 240 for nine in the second ODI in Colombo on Sunday.

Washington (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) showcased their intelligence on a pitch that favored them after the Lankan captain Charith Asalanka chose to bat first.

A partnership of 72 runs for the seventh wicket between Dunith Wellalage (39) and Kamindu Mendis (40) allowed Sri Lanka to escape from a precarious position of 136 for six.

The first breakthrough for India came when Mohammed Siraj dismissed the in-form Pathum Nissanka caught by KL Rahul behind the stumps.

An impeccable outswinger just outside the off-stump line led to Nissanka’s downfall.

Although there was a recovery phase with Avishka Fernando (40, 62b, 5×4) and Kusal Mendis (30, 42b, 3×4) forming a solid second-wicket partnership, the introduction of spinners from both ends slowed down the scoring rate for Sri Lanka.

As the spinners tightened the screws, Sri Lanka had to rely on nudging the ball around for runs.

Despite showing some resilience, the impatience of the Sri Lankan batters was evident in their dismissals, especially Sadeera Samarawickrama’s ill-executed shot that ended up in the hands of Virat Kohli.

Asalanka fought valiantly against the spinners but eventually fell to Washington’s clever bowling, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 136 for six.

With the pressure mounting, the young Wellalage showcased composure and aggression, hitting a six off Axar Patel and Siraj. He found support in Kamindu, who also played some aggressive shots as Sri Lanka surpassed their total from the previous ODI.

Despite a late surge from Sri Lanka in the final five overs, the Indian bowlers were inconsistent, conceding 44 runs in the process.
