Sheikh Hasina’s Son Clarifies She Has Not Sought Asylum Anywhere, in Conversation with NDTV

New Delhi:

Interrogated regarding numerous accounts of UK’s “quietness” her appeal for refuge and annulment of her visa by the US, Mr Wazed articulated, “The narratives about her soliciting refuge are inaccurate. She has not sought refuge anywhere. Hence, the assertion of UK or US not replying yet is false”.

Questioned about the US Visa cancellation, he conveyed, “There has been no such discourse with the US”.

Mr Wazed, who garnered attention yesterday by stating his mother will withdraw from politics, reaffirmed it today. “She is finished with politics in Bangladesh… my mother was contemplating retiring regardless, this was going to be her ultimate term,” he stated.

The family, he appended, is at present contemplating to allocate time together – the specifics of which are yet to be determined. “I am in Washington, my aunt is in London, my sister resides in Delhi, so we are uncertain, she might journey between the locations,” he remarked.

Ms Hasina’s aircraft granted by the Bangladesh armed forces had touched down at the Indian Air Force base in Hindon close to Delhi yesterday, promptly after departing from Dhaka.

“At very brief notice, she sought assent to come momentarily to India. We simultaneously received a plea for flight authorization from the Bangladesh authorities. She turned up yesterday evening in Delhi,” foreign minister S Jaishankar has articulated.

With the administration yet to disclose how long she will be residing, there has been extensive speculation about her eventual destination. A variety of designations have been mentioned, comprising US, UK and even Finland.

Earlier today, Mr Jaishankar had characterized the situation in Dhaka as “developing” and expressed apprehension about the law and order scenario there.

The Border Security Force is on heightened alert across India’s 4,096-km border with Bangladesh, portions of which are permeable. Indian Railways has halted trains to Bangladesh and most carriers have annulled flights to Dhaka.
