Shooting Incident Outside Queens Nightclub Leaves 10 Injured on New Year’s Day
In a shocking act of violence, at least 10 people were shot outside a nightclub in Queens, New York, on New Year’s Day, as reported by the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. near Amazura, located on 144th Place in Jamaica, Queens.
According to police, the shooting took place while a private event was happening inside the club, which was at full capacity with around 90 attendees. At the same time, approximately 15 individuals were waiting in line outside when three or four armed men approached the venue and discharged over 30 rounds, resulting in injuries to 10 individuals.
Authorities confirmed that all victims are under the age of 20, including a 16-year-old boy who was among those shot. The injured victims, comprising six females and four males, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.
A significant police presence and numerous ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and footage shared on social media shows the chaotic aftermath. While the investigation is ongoing, Rivera stated that the motive for the shooting remains unclear but emphasized that it “is not terrorism.”
