Suspect in Bareilly Serial Killings Case Admits to 6 Murders

The Bareilly police released sketches of suspects based on eyewitness accounts.

Bareilly:

An individual suspected to be implicated in a sequence of homicides targeting middle-aged women in Bareilly over the past year has been apprehended, authorities disclosed on Friday.

The alleged perpetrator, Kuldeep Kumar, was recognized and taken into custody on Thursday by a squad from Shahi police station near the edges of the Mathiya with the aid of a tip and previously crafted sketches and videos, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya stated.

Kumar, approximately 35 years old, has admitted to the murder of six women, law enforcement officials mentioned.

The detention ensued a thorough examination involving the scrutiny of CCTV camera footage, deployment of decoys, and analysis of mobile data, Mr. Arya conveyed.

The homicides of six middle-aged women in wooded areas at secluded spots, predominantly in the Shahi and Sheeshgarh regions, had surfaced during the past year and homicide cases were registered concerning these occurrences at Shahi and Sheeshgarh police stations, he stated.

Initially, the authorities had reported that nine women were slain in the Shahi-Sheeshgarh vicinity since the previous year and speculated that the homicides were committed by the same individual who suffocated the victims.

A year later, the Bareilly police circulated sketches of suspects based on eyewitness accounts.

The most recent victim, Anita Devi from Haujpur village, was discovered with marks of strangulation on July 2. The first victim was Kusma from Khajuria village who was murdered almost a year ago in July.

The dearth of clues prompted Inspector General of Police (Bareilly Range) Rakesh Singh to assume direct leadership of the inquiry.
