Three-Year-Old Girl and Six Others Drown in Jaipur After House Basement Floods

Rainwater accumulated on roads and residential areas in many parts of Jaipur.

A six-year-old girl was among three individuals who perished after rainwater inundated the cellar of their residence in Vishwakarma area here early Thursday morning, authorities stated.

Three individuals, including a lady, traveling on a motorcycle on a bridge were carried away by the overflowing Kalisindh river in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district at approximately 4 pm on Thursday.

Head Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma presided over a meeting of senior authorities to assess the situation caused by relentless rainfall and issued necessary instructions.

Kamal Shah (23), Pooja Saini (19) and her niece Purvi Saini drowned in rainwater that deluged the cellar of their residence in the Vishwakarma area in Jaipur. Subsequent to the water infiltrating the cellar of their residences at around 4 am, the families commenced evacuating their possessions, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West Amit Kumar remarked. The entryway to the cellar of the residence is narrow and deep.

At this moment, three individuals from two families became ensnared in the cellar as it started filling with water, Kumar stated, adding that a rescue mission was initiated and the rainwater was drained out.

The bodies were retrieved by the SDRF during a rescue operation that lasted several hours, the police said.

Offering condolences regarding the occurrence, CM Sharma directed officials to provide financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to the family of each deceased.

Authorization to bestow Rs 4 lakh from disaster relief fund and Rs 1 lakh from chief minister’s relief fund has been granted, authorities stated.

Deputy CM Diya Kumari visited the family members of the deceased and conveyed sympathies. She mentioned that endeavors have been made to tackle the issue of water accumulation in the area.

Conversely, the denizens of the locality have been advised not to reside in their cellars during rainfall, the police stated.

The remains of the victims have been transferred to Kanwatiya Government Hospital for postmortem, the police stated, all the victims hail from Bihar.

The remains were handed over after postmortem.

In Jhalawar, three individuals, including a lady, traveling on a motorcycle on a bridge were swept away by the overflowing Kalisindh river this afternoon, Mandawar SHO Mahaveer Prasad mentioned.

They haven’t been identified as of yet, he stated.

A quest operation was launched but none of them could be located until the evening, he appended.

In Jaipur’s Bagru area, a 15-year-old lad, identified as Piyush Acharya, was swept away in a drain. He was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away, the police recounted.

Owing to intense rains that commenced on Wednesday night, most areas of Jaipur city were inundated, which continued until morning.

Rainwater accumulated on roads and in residential areas in the state capital, resulting in significant commuting predicaments.

Jaipur Collector Prakash Raj Purohit visited rain-affected areas, such as Vishwakarma area, Sikar Road, and directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the situation.

Several schools in Jaipur declared a vacation due to the sustained rainfall.

In Churu, a nearly century-old edifice sited at Bhai Ji Chowk collapsed due to heavy rains. Nevertheless, no one sustained injuries.

Amid heavy rains in Kota, a bus overturned and plunged into a 20 feet deep trench, leaving four passengers wounded while 31 passengers were evacuated.

Intense rains in Phagi town of Dudu district deluged the roads. During this time, a roadways bus filled with passengers got stuck in the water. Local residents extricated it with a tractor.

Passengers encountered difficulties in entering the terminal in the early hours of the day.

Meanwhile, CM Sharma conducted a meeting via video conference and instructed officials to head to the field and evaluate the situation and ensure prompt relief to the populace in case of catastrophe.

He directed the authorities to identify antiquated and dilapidated structures during the monsoon season, so that any form of harm can be averted in a timely manner.

The CM also urged the medical and health department officials to guarantee ample availability of medical amenities to prevent seasonal illnesses, according to a release.

Per the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Churu, Bharatpur, Tonk, Sikar, Hanumangarh, Dholpur, Nagaur and Jhunjhunu received heavy to extremely heavy rainfall within a span of 24 hours until 8.30 am on Thursday.

Jaipur recorded the maximum rainfall of 173 mm during this period, the weather office stated, adding that from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Thursday, Ganganagar registered a maximum of 48 mm precipitation while numerous other areas recorded less than 48 mm rainfall.

The department has anticipated rainfall at many locations in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions over the next 24 hours.
