Two women dead, five injured in shooting at park barbecue; Suspects still on the run
Two females lost their lives and five other individuals were injured in a shooting at a picnic in an upstate New York park, according to law enforcement officials.
Hundreds of people, including children, were present at Rochester’s Maplewood Park when shots were fired from multiple firearms just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, as reported by Rochester police during a press conference.
The five individuals who sustained injuries were said to have non-life-threatening wounds, according to police on Monday.
Tyasia Manning, 25, and Phylicia Council, 34, were the victims of the incident, according to the authorities.
Manning, a municipal worker, was known for assisting young individuals in “realizing their potential,” as stated by Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.
“These individuals were innocent victims,” he remarked.
“As I surveyed the crime scene last night, I observed a stroller, people’s footwear. Our citizens should be able to relish the summer in a park, without exception,” Evans added. “However, far too frequently, there are individuals in this community who are unmitigated cowards — individuals who are comfortable with harming females. And two of those females lost their lives.”
